Steaks from Latin America
Will you have visitors on Sunday and you would like to make an impression? Do they prefer meat but you want to give an exotic tone on your table. And how much time do you have? An hour? Well, I have for you the perfect plate. It has satisfied the most pretentious palates and comes from Latin America. I learnt it from a mexican woman... She used to cook it with lamb and chili, but because the lamb isn't to my liking (only on spit or ribs) and because chili isn't for everyone, I give you a simplified version.Ingredients:
4 pork steaks
500 gr tomatoes chopped
2 big green peppers
1 can of kidney beans
1 medium onion
1 tablespoon red wine
salt, pepper
Directions:
We wash the steaks and let them drain. We put salt and pepper to your taste and grill them for 10' one side and 5' the other. We put them in a Dutch oven or a pan/pyrex that we cover with aluminum foil.
In a deep pan or a heavy bottom pot we let the oil heaten up and then put the onion chopped and the green peppers cut in strings or cubes. When the onion gets "blonde" we pour the wine and add the tomatoes, a glass of water, salt and pepper. We turn the heat on and let it boil for 2'-3' before we add the kidney beans, that we have drained beforehand. We boil until 1/3 of the liquid remains. We pour the sauce over the steaks and transfer them in the oven in 200 degrees for 15'-20' until the sauce gets thick. We can serve it with rice if we like, although it's quite satisfying as it is.
Enjoy!
