My dog cries when I leave home

Be your dog's trainer

Generally I am an easy prey for dogs. They always push me around and have it their way. It's because I treat them like kids and cannot say no. That's why I could never be a trainer. On the other hand I am a master in theory :) . So, I will tell you an easy way to teach your new friend not to cry when you leave them alone in the house.

When we leave the house leaving our dog behind, they feel anxiety and insecurity. Thus it is normal to react while we are away. We have to teach them that this situation is temporary and it will soon be over. For starters we leave them alone at home for 2 or 3 minutes, without actually leaving the place. We close the door and just stand a little further so that it cannot smell us. We might hear our dog cry during this period. We don't talk to them. We just wait for the time to pass. We get back inside trying (as much as possible - because I can't do it) not to be enthusiastic about our reunion. In a while we get out again for a little longer, say 5 minutes. And then get back in. We do this a few more times each time missing for a little longer. We have to do this several times and for several days. Thus, since dogs don't know what time is and how it works, they'll understand that you will return home whatsoever to be with them. It would quite help if you left a shirt of yours, so that they smell you in your absence, their favorite toy or a bone for them to chew, so that they have something to do. It is very important that when we return "we don't fuss about it" and ignore our dogs for five minutes. Personally I can't ignore them for a second, but I have to mention it in order to be correct.

Good luck and be patient!!!
